Fifteen places. Fifteen stories, landscapes and ways of life.
The municipality stretches across a long and varied landscape. Around Lake Storsjøen you find different stories than along the Glomma. Each place has its own character, meeting places, businesses and landscapes.
That is why we tell Rendalen through the places that make up the municipality. Here you can get to know them – what makes them distinctive, who lives there, what has happened there and what is happening today.
The villages and settlements lie in different landscapes and have developed in different ways. Some are closely connected to lakes. Others to farming, forests, mountains, rivers, roads or railways. Some have strong communities and meeting places. Others are smaller and more scattered.
Sjølisand, Åkrestrømmen, Lomnessjøen East, Fiskviklia and Åkre lie in the southern part of Rendalen, where Lake Storsjøen, farming and local businesses are important parts of the area's identity.
Otnes, Hornset and the area around Bergset form an important historical and administrative part of Rendalen.
Elvål, Midtskogen, Unset, Unsetbrenna and Finstad lie in the northern and eastern parts of the municipality, where forests, mountains, outfield landscapes and long distances shape everyday life.
Hanestad lies along the Glomma and the Røros Railway – a place shaped by the river, railway, road and the people who continue to care about it.
Explore Hanestad →Each place will gradually get its own story and fact page. Five are now complete – the others will be developed one by one.
It is not only about where the houses are. A village or settlement can be connected by history, schools, churches, farms, workplaces, associations, community halls, sport, volunteer work – or simply by people who know one another.
That is why our village stories are more than geographical descriptions. They are stories about life in each place – past, present and future.
Each place will eventually have its own story. Some will focus on history, others on people, landscapes, local businesses, culture and everyday life. The aim is not to make them all alike – but to show what makes each one different.
Every place has its own story. We will tell them one by one.
